V&A Dundee’s 5th Birthday

Commemorative Print

A commission from the V&A Dundee to design a bespoke print to commemorate their 5th birthday in September 2023.

The lino-print design was inspired by the extraordinary architecture of the building, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The building has a distinct presence in Dundee, standing boldly and proudly over the Tay river. Its cavernous underbelly, combined with the cliff-like shapes of the outer walls have always reminded me of a great mountainous island sitting upon the water.

The final design was created based on this idea; reconceptualizing  the building as an imaginary island; a fitting home for Scotland’s centre of design and craft.
